Tsavorite garnet and diamond cluster ring

(Code: 13162 )

A tsavorite garnet, diamond and 18 carat white gold oval cluster ring.

The central vivid green garnet of 1.23 carats is claw set in yellow gold within a border of twelve brilliant cut diamonds and two tapering baguette diamond shoulder stones. The total diamond weight is 0.42 carats.

This rare green form of grossular garnet is a relative newcomer to the world of gemstones.  It was first discovered in Tanzania in 1967 by the gemmologist Campbell Bridges, who subsequently found it present in the same geological seam in the eponymous Tsavo Valley in south-east Kenya in 1970.  Tsavorite has many of the attributes of the perfect gemstone – its high dispersion gives it  remarkable brilliance, the colour is strikingly beautiful ranging from a bright spring green to a rich deep forest green,  it is tougher and more durable than emerald  and considerably scarcer in larger crystals.
