Pearls should be treated with extra care, like other organic or porous gemstones they are highly susceptible to chemicals. The alcohol and acids in perfume, hairspray and even makeup can be potentially damaging. As a rule, your jewellery should be the very last thing you put on, after your perfume has dried.

There is no need to clean pearls, as the natural oils in your skin will help maintain their lustre. Even very mild detergent may damage the delicate coating of pearls, however, you can wipe cultured pearls gently with a slightly damp cloth to gently clean them if required.

Our pearls are strung on pure silk with knots between each pearl. Pearls should be restrung every one to four years, depending on how frequently they are worn. If the string is still bright white, it should be fine, but if the silk is starting to look dull or grey it is time to restring.
